The Commercialisation of Our Ill Health

If communities do not directly confront these issues and seek balanced ways of living they will directly suffer the consequences, our failure to directly and effectively confront these issues has led to corporate lobbying groups defining the legal relationships defending their profit from and monopolisation of these activities (usually using under the aegis of ‘free speech’ and lack of interference in the ‘free’ market), the consequences are the exploding growth of disease and social disorders, which communities themselves directly suffer whilst Corporations profit from the activities that bring illness and the consequent need for medicines which the pharmaceutical companies monopolise.
Plato remains correct in his analysis of the problems of democracy, it led to the oligarchic rule by unelected, secretive and manipulative rule by merchants and it seems that we have fallen victim to this historical pattern once again! Democracies can only work if citizens are strenuously active and protective of the sources of their real power, and that is not merely at the ballot box (which in modern democracies is perhaps the weakest aspect of that power). With the ‘freedoms’ must come immense active responsibilities which our current order has failed to provide. Without that active responsibility what has resulted will always result.
