The Heroic Power of Myth
Much of the psychological work that I do with people is helping them to rebuild their internal narrative landscape, which is naturally mythic. The mythic psyche of modern man is in ruins, for in order to malform man to fit the technological, usurious project, we have essentially re-crafted his landscape in order that the narrative psychological scape permits no threat to the technological project.
This natural mythic narrative scape makes man heroic, wild and at times ungovernable and this cannot be permitted if the population is to go to school, work, get a mortgage, raise or not raise the children, pay off the mortgage, get old, retire and die. In order to streamline human societies we have had to collapse the natural mythic narrative landscape and re-craft the psyche into a simplified, technologically manipulable form.
This re-crafting itself leaves people psychologically dislocated. The natural mythic landscape matches the energetic landscape, with all of its nodal loci, which allows the energetic flow, that is man, to function and change in harmony with existence. I believe that it is because of this breakdown and the consequential dislocation and psychological pain that substance abuse and spiritualised escapism is as widespread as it is, for the psychological pain must be anaesthetised.
My work in this regard is essentially about teaching people to permit and facilitate the re-emergence of their heroic, mythic narrative landscapes. Watching them release from the existential pain and limiting narratives, is usually like observing chrysalis, as they transform into naturally heroic beings, and though it is not always successful, for it is necessarily heroic, even in their failure it leaves them with a realisation of their natural capacities in a modality that is not psychotherapeutic (and some people really need psychotherapeutic interventions) but which is a journey of overcoming, failure and re-engagement with their own personal heroic landscape.
It is essentially the awakening of our deep capacity of will to power, in the Nietzchian sense. Understanding their personality and bio type has been an incredible tool on that journey, for it opens a grasp and familiarity with their fundamental energetic patterns in a way that enables one to make use of these realisations in an increasingly non-judgemental way.
The objective of the work is to unleash a deep human psychological dynamic that changes their relationship with the world into a deeply mythic and heroic mode. It is not by accident that the literature of the ancient world that has survived the ages is dominated by mythic and heroic poetry. Enabling the rediscovery or reconnection with the deep psychological power that this unleashes is one of the primary reasons that I keep doing my work.
